Serving clients in Orlando, Palm Beach Gardens, and West Palm Beach, our licensed psychologists utilize evidence-based tools to assess cognitive functioning, personality, and emotional health with precision and care.
What is Psychological Testing?
Psychological testing is like a “medical check-up” for your mental health. It involves a series of standardized tests, interviews, and observations designed to measure a person’s unique strengths, weaknesses, and learning styles. The goal is to move beyond symptoms and identify the root cause of behavioral or emotional difficulties.
Our evaluations are not one-size-fits-all. We tailor each assessment to answer specific questions regarding:
- Diagnostic Clarification: Differentiating between conditions like anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, or PTSD to ensure the right treatment approach.
- Cognitive & IQ Testing: Measuring intellectual potential (Giftedness) or identifying intellectual disabilities.
- Personality Assessment: Understanding deep-seated patterns of behavior and emotional coping mechanisms.
- Learning Style Analysis: Identifying how a child or adult processes information best.
Our Assessment Services
We offer a broad spectrum of psychological evaluations to meet diverse needs:
Clinical Diagnostic Evaluations
For individuals experiencing persistent mental health challenges. We assess mood disorders, anxiety, trauma, and personality disorders to guide therapists and psychiatrists in creating effective treatment plans.
Psycho-Educational Testing
For students facing academic hurdles. We evaluate for specific learning disabilities (such as Dyslexia or Dyscalculia) and provide the documentation needed for school accommodations (IEP/504 Plans).
Forensic Psychological Evaluations
We bridge the gap between psychology and the law. Our team conducts rigorous evaluations for criminal matters, child custody disputes, and competency determinations. We provide expert opinions to help courts make informed decisions.
Competency & Capacity Evaluations
We assess an individual’s mental capacity to make critical life decisions, such as medical consents or financial management. These evaluations are crucial for guardianship proceedings and elder care planning.
The Testing Process
We strive to make the testing experience as stress-free as possible:
- Intake Interview: We discuss your history, concerns, and goals to select the appropriate tests.
- Testing Sessions: You (or your child) will complete a series of tasks, puzzles, and questionnaires.
- Scoring & Analysis: Our psychologists analyze the results against standardized norms.
- Feedback & Report: You receive a comprehensive written report explaining the findings and offering actionable recommendations.

Common reasons people seek psychological testing
- A child is struggling with reading, writing or math despite extra help (possible dyslexia, dysgraphia or dyscalculia).
- Parents or teachers want to know whether a child is gifted, or whether an intellectual disability is present.
- Symptoms of ADHD or autism need a formal diagnosis.
- A therapist or psychiatrist needs diagnostic clarification between conditions such as depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety or PTSD.
- A college student or adult needs documentation for accommodations.
- An attorney or court needs a forensic, competency or immigration evaluation.
How long does psychological testing take?
Most evaluations include an intake interview, one or two testing appointments and a feedback session. A comprehensive assessment usually totals 12 to 18 billable hours, including testing, scoring, interpretation, the written report and the feedback meeting. Focused evaluations may take less time.
What the report includes

- Results for cognitive ability, academic skills, attention, emotional functioning and behavior, as relevant.
- Any diagnoses, based on DSM-5-TR criteria.
- Specific recommendations for home, school, work, therapy or medical follow-up.

Psychological testing FAQs
Is psychological testing the same as therapy?
No. Testing is a one-time evaluation that answers specific questions and produces a report. Therapy is ongoing treatment. Testing often helps a therapist choose the right approach.
How is psychological testing different from a neuropsychological assessment?
Psychological testing focuses on learning, emotions, behavior and personality. A neuropsychological assessment looks more closely at thinking skills and brain health. Many evaluations include parts of both.
Can my child’s school use the results?
Yes. Schools must consider outside evaluations when deciding on IEP or 504 plan services. If you disagree with a school evaluation, you may be able to request an independent educational evaluation.
Who sees my results?
Only you, and anyone you give written permission to share them with, such as a school, doctor or attorney. Court-ordered evaluations follow the court’s order.
What should I bring?
Photo ID, insurance card, and any previous evaluations, report cards, IEPs or 504 plans, and medical records.
